      The decorations of the large floats include fine Gobelin tapestries and other important historical relics. The men in summer kimono, sitting in the shade under the roof, play drums and flutes while two "drivers" with fans, perched at the front, direct the efforts of the pullers. Every July 17th in Kyoto, Japan, about thirty floats are paraded downtown during the Gion Festival. The largest handful are called hoko and weigh about ten tons.
